What Is Hooch?
The definition of hooch is alcoholic liquor. It can be associated with low-quality liquor. But for our purposes, we are using the term to refer to drinking alcohol.
We’ll also cover some topics relating to other mind-altering substances. But the concentration is on alcohol.
The word ditch, when used as a verb, means to get rid of something.
So now you can gather that the phrase Ditch the Hooch means to get rid of alcohol.
Not a Soapbox
My goal for this website is not to try and get people to stop drinking alcohol. It’s more about exploring what is available for those who have decided to stop or are considering stopping.
I don’t want to turn this into a site that lectures people on the ill effects (long term) of alcohol consumption. I will cover some topics to help people who are struggling to stop or to stay stopped. But the crux of this site will be reviewing beverages that can be alternatives to alcohol, like non-alcoholic beer or wines.
Why This Website?
I stopped drinking five years ago. It was a great decision, but I needed something to fill the gap for beverages. Water didn’t cut it for me. I drink a lot of it. But for meals, I wanted something more than water.
I am not a huge soda or juice fan, either. There really wasn’t much in the way of alternative beverages like non-alcoholic brew. O’Doul’s makes an okay non-alcoholic beer. But to be honest, it seems more of an afterthought. The amber brew is definitely better than the standard. But it’s only a slight step up. By the way, if you have no other choice, the standard O’Doul’s is better with some lemon or lime added. To add lemon or lime is not out of the ordinary as people do this with Corona beer all the time!
Reviews
I want to focus heavily on reviews of different non-alcoholic beverages. There’s some good news and not-so-good news in this arena.
Good news – the good news is that brew masters are stepping up their game in this space. My interest was triggered when my wife was watching a news story showing how the game has changed.
Not-so-good news – these alternatives to alcoholic beverages are on the expensive side. While it’s good to have these available, they come at a premium.
Conclusion
I am excited for my journey into this new era of non-imbibement. I hope you will join me.
